So, you are going on a long trip and are excited about it. Well, as exciting as it seems, some simple mistakes can ruin it all. So, you should know about all the important things, so you don’t ruin yours.
Now without further ado, let’s dig in!
1. Talk to your credit card company
Talk to your credit company and ask for any offers and special discounts on the flight, hotel and other bookings. . Also, check if you have enough credit on your card. Otherwise, you might face financial issues during your trip.
2. Clean up the whole place
Trust me; you don’t want to come back to a messy space after a long relaxing vacation. So, vacuum the house and scrub the sink to prevent things from going bad to worse. Don’t forget to clean up the corners.
Dispose of the garbage bags. You can pour choline in the commode to reduce the number of build-up bacteria.
3. Suspend the mail and newspaper services
The pile of newspapers and junk mail on your doorstep clearly shows that the owner is not present at home. It’s a great opportunity for trespassers and burglars to rob your house, and you don’t want that.
So, suspend the newspaper and mail services four days before the trip. Then, if you have friendly neighbors, ask them to check your doorstep daily. In case the newspaper provider doesn’t hold their service, you can request them to take the papers away.
4. Talk to your cell phone service provider
If you are visiting a country, it’s best to call your service provider to find out about the cheapest plans for making calls, sending messages, accessing the internet, etc.
If you are too late for this or your service provider doesn’t operate in that country, buy a sim card after landing. Recharge it with a data plan only. Then use social media platforms for calls and messages.
5. Clean the refrigerator and then turn it off
Take a peek inside your refrigerator. If you see food, eat them or pack them for the trip. Otherwise, the food might go to waste.
You don’t want to open your house door only to smell stinky food. After putting everything away, it’s time to clean the fridge. Use a mixture of baking soda and water to clear it.
Don’t forget to turn it off and unplug the fridge before washing it. Leave an open packet of baking soda inside the fridge to absorb smells and prevent molds.
6. Alert your home security system operator
Be sure to alert your home security system operator while going on a long journey. They can provide you with some special service in your absence. Further, inform the local police department. They might do extra runs by your house.
7. Contact the caravan services
Contact them to locate their service centers if you are going on a trip with your caravan. So that if you face any problems on the road, you will know where to go.
There are various Australian caravan manufacturers available across the globe. So, it’s less likely you will not find any service centers of a caravan company.
8. Unplug all the appliances
Do you know the appliances still consume power if you plug them in without turning on the switch? So, unplug all the kitchen appliances. Next, plug out your air conditioner and heater.
If you have a water heater, turn the vacation mode on. If the heater doesn’t have that mode, lower the temperature.
9. Double-check your reservations
Confirm all your reservations, including flight, hotel, rental car service, etc. You don’t want to get rejected from the check-in counter. Print out all the documents and write down customer service numbers in case your phone dies.
10. Turn down the main water supply
When you are away from home for a long time, a tiny leakage can end up costing you more than the trip. So, make sure to turn off the main water supply before you leave.
Over to you…
Now that you know all the things that you should do before you leave, you can create a to-do list. Then, strike off the points once done. It is a great way to ensure that there’s nothing left unchecked.
