Baby formula preparation and storage

It is commonly known that breast milk is the best choice of food for your little one. It enriches them with all the best nutrients that ensure healthy development and growth. In addition to its nutritional value, it doesn’t require any preparation and extra supplies, so it surely saves parents’ time and money.

In case of impossible breastfeeding, parents tend to use the most suitable available alternative – baby formula. Over the years, there are lots of them on the market and you can choose the one that will be the most beneficial for your baby and the most convenient to use for you. You can find them in organic baby formula shop online or in physical shops. But, still there are some basic rules that you need to follow to prepare and store formulas in the right way.

So, let’s have a look at them:

  1. Find all the necessary equipment for making a formula

Buy high quality bottles that will be microwave friendly and have a long useful life. You definitely need to check whether the bottle has any damages. Otherwise, it can lose its shape during heating or cooling or even provide the formula with harmful bacteria and negatively affect the baby’s health.

2. Check the correct formula-to-water ratio

It is almost the main secret of making a great formula for your little one. The directions on the container make sense, so you need to follow them precisely. Remember to check it every time you buy a new formula, because they are all unique and may have different recommendations. Make sure you use premium formula and high-quality water not to harm your baby.

3. Sterilize bottles and nipples

While sterilizing bottles and nipples, you kill germs that are able to harm your little one. Not paying as much attention to sterilizing as needed, you may put the child at risk, especially when your baby has an unstable immune system. To simplify your own life, you can buy a special sterilizer that can do all the work for you.

4. How long does the prepared formula last?

Of course, you need to give a formula to your loved one as soon as possible. But, generally, mixed formulas can sit out at room temperature for two hours. Then you need to feed your baby with it or refrigerate it.

Remember some good times for storing a formula in the fridge:

  • open ready-to-use bottles can last up to 48 hours;
  • Bottles with mixed powdered formula can last up to 24 hours.

5. Is preparing formulas in advance healthy?

Many parents are curious about making formulas in advance as they don’t have enough time or possibilities to prepare formulas at any time of the day. Experts recommend preparing it right before feeding the baby during the daytime. But for overnight feeds, it’s really convenient to make bottles in advance. So you can mix a formula before going to bed and put it in the fridge. So it can be stored for 24 hours and easily grabbed at 2 a.m. or something.
